Author Guidelines

Eligibility

Any undergraduate student at the University of Florida may submit a paper to UF JUR. To be eligible for publication, the research must be faculty mentored.

Types of Papers

UF JUR publishes original work only, including scholarly research papers as well as fine and performing arts projects that are accompanied by a project summary addressing, among other issues, influences, process/methodology, technique, and impact. Reviews are not accepted.

Length

Papers should be between 1500 and 4000 words, including references. There is no limit on the number of figures and tables in a paper, though their placement and quality must conform to UF JUR guidelines.

Format

For manuscript formatting (margins, fonts, headings, labeling and construction of figures and tables, etc.), use of the UF JUR template is required. (NOTE: ignore the template header for author name. This task will be completed during copy-editing.)

Graphics, including figures and tables, should appear within the manuscript rather than at the end. All graphics, including figures and tables must be in JPEG format; 300 DPI; maximum 1000 pixels wide x 2600 pixels high. Captions with credits must be included for each figure, and all tables labeled.

All citations must be complete in text and in the bibliography.

NOTE: The template is justified and the instructions state left aligned. Either is fine and will be fixed during the copy editing phase.

All copyrighted issues must be settled.

Deadlines

Papers should be received no later than:

April 1, 2019

April 1, 2020

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission file is in MSWord (.doc or .docx) format and the length of the manuscript is between 1500 and 4000 words. Keywords (meta data), in-text citations and bibliography/references included.

NOTE: The template is justified and the instructions state left aligned. Either is fine and will be fixed during the copy editing phase.

  2. The submission file uses the UFJUR template, and adheres to the APA format.

All copyrighted issues must be settled.

  3. The author has removed any identifying information in the paper. Ensuring a Blind Review

The author must include all co-authors. To add co-authors, you click on 'Add Author' in your profile.

NOTE: Please ignore the header for the names. This will be added if your article is accepted.

  4. Submission Approval Form is completed by the faculty/mentor.  This form is uploaded in the supplementary file field (step 4) when submitting your research article.

Note: The faculty's department information is required. Boxes must be checked.

  5. If submitting to another journal, verify the journal will accept a submission already published in UF JUR.

If your work is previously published, you must notify the UFJUR prior to submission.

  6. Failure to follow all author submission guidelines will result in the article being declined. If the article is accepted, the author must adhere to the deadline for revisions. The editor has the final approval of all articles.
