Gramoxone inteon-a new formulation for weed management in citrus

Abstract

A series of experiments were conducted in Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 at different field locations and in the greenhouse to examine the bioefficacy of Gramoxone Inteon (Paraquat). Bioefficacy of Gramoxone Inteon formulation was compared with Gramoxone Max and Touchdown Hitech (Glyphosate) on weeds in common in all experiments and also different weeds present at different field sites. Gramoxone Inteon 2 SL and Gramoxone Max 3 SL at 840 and 1120 g a.i./ha, Touchdown at 880 g a.i./ha were applied alone and as a tank mix with Solicam (2688 g a.i./ha). The non-ionic surfactant X-77 (0.25%) was tank mixed with all the treatments for increased spread. Application of Gramoxone Inteon or Max showed almost complete control of grasses and broadleaf weeds even at the lower rate. Highest control was recorded one week after treatment (WAT) and thereafter, control of all weeds was similar until 4 WAT. In general, control of grasses and broadleaf weeds were significantly higher with Gramoxone formulations than with Touchdown. Some broadleaf weeds showed a slight tolerance to Touchdown as phytotoxic effects were not complete. Both formulations of Gramoxone proved to be equally good in controlling the mixed weed flora in citrus groves.
