Mass media for program distribution: City of Tampa television, Spotlight Tampa

Abstract


The objective was to reach larger audiences with timely and pertinent environmental horticulture programming while maximizing utilization of limited resources. Education is the key which we provided while using mass media and teaching University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM (FFL) principles. This was accomplished through our partnership with a local television station, City of Tampa Television. These principles include: right plant, right place; watering efficiently; appropriate fertilization; mulch; attracting wildlife; managing yard pests responsibly; recycling; reducing storm-water runoff; and protecting the environment.
