iPads and Service Learning Join Hands for Lifelong Artistic Literacy

Abstract


In this article the author discusses the linking of art education policy and technology with the goal of lifelong artistic literacy. The author reviews newly drafted national common core frameworks that encourage the use of technology with art and compares her curriculum for teaching pre-service art educators. By recalling her university students’ recent intergenerational service learning experience with iPads the author determines that the mobile devices may be instrumental for implementing technology in her curriculum that encourages lifelong artistic literacy.
