Abstract

The relationship between Xiphinema brevicolle Lordello et da Costa and C. diffusum Lamberti et Bleve-Zacheo was studied by means of principal component analysis and hierachical cluster analysis of measurements from 24 populations identified either as X. brevicolle or X. diffusum and X. guirani apud Lamberti et Bleve-Zacheo, 1979. Results showed the occurrence of four phenotypes. Topotypes of X. brevicolle and paratypes of X. diffusum appeared clearly distinguishable on the axis formed by the three first principal components. Redescription of X. brevicolle is provided and X. diffusum re-illustrated. Amended differential diagnosis and information on their geographical distribution are provided. X. parvum sp.n. and X. taylori sp.n. are described to include the Jamaican population previously identified as X. diffusum and European populations previously identified as X. brevicolle respectively. X. guirani apud Lamberti et Bleve-Zacheo is redescribed as X. pseudoguirani sp.n.
