Abstract

Host range and specificity in Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar (Heterorhabditidae: Nematoda). Laboratory infections under controlled conditions were conducted to determine the host range of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. To 60 insect species known to be susceptible to parasitism, 47 were added. Ali phytophagous species were attacked while the predators were not. The insects died between 24 and 60 hours after the contact with the nematode. The development, size and feeding habits of the insects influenced the infection and parasitic development. It was confirmed that predators and pollinators were resistant and only in aquatic diptera did melanization occur.
