Abstract


In susceptible and resistant potato roots the area surrounding the initial syncytial cell wall at the head region of the second stage juvenile of Globodera rostochiensis was examined by transmission electron microscopy. In the small number of syncytia studied, partial or complete breakdown of the initial syncytial cell wall was found only in resistant roots, and is the probable cause of mass emigration or in situ death of nematodes.
